Colonial Portraiture and Taal Heritage

Villa Tortuga is a beautifully restored 19th-century colonial home situated along the heritage streets of Taal, Batangas. It offers a unique tourist experience where visitors can dress up in authentic-looking 19th-century Spanish-era attire (Filipiniana and barong tagalog) and take portrait photos in the villa's antique rooms. Honestly, it's a fun and immersive way to experience history, especially when paired with a traditional Batangas lunch served on vintage tableware.

The villa is located in the historic town of Taal, which is famous for its well-preserved ancestral homes, needlework (balisong and barong embroidery), and the massive Taal Basilica, which is the largest Catholic church in Asia. Spending a day here allows you to explore the town's rich culture and pick up some local delicacies like panutsa (peanut brittle) and tapang Taal (cured pork). It's a great weekend road trip away from the hustle of the metro.

Transit from Manila to the Southern Province

Commuting from Manila requires taking a bus bound for Lemery or Taal from terminals in LRT Buendia or PITX. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Taal Town Plaza. The bus trip takes about two to three hours, depending on traffic along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the narrow roads leading to Taal. From the plaza, the villa is within walking distance or a short tricycle ride. Driving is an option, but the town's streets are very narrow and parking spaces are difficult to find, so walking around is best.
