From Holes-in-the-Wall to Trendy Roof decks

Poblacion, or "Pobla" as the locals call it, has evolved from Makati's red-light district into the ultimate hipster food and nightlife enclave. What makes a food crawl here so exciting is the sheer variety of culinary concepts tucked into its grid of narrow streets. You can start your night eating cheap, messy street tacos at El Chupacabra, move on to modern Filipino tapas at Alamat Filipino Pub, and end up at a hidden speakeasy or a rooftop bar overlooking the Makati skyline. The vibe is gritty, energetic, and very raw. It is the absolute opposite of the polished dining experience you get in nearby Rockwell or BGC, and that is exactly why people love it. The crowd is a mix of young professionals, artists, expats, and travelers staying in the local hostels, creating a super social atmosphere where it's easy to make new friends.

Aside from Mexican and Filipino food, Poblacion is also home to some of the best Japanese izakayas in Makati, particularly around the "Little Tokyo" extensions on the side streets. Grab some yakitori and a cold draft beer while sitting on a plastic stool by the road. The prices are relatively reasonable, but they can add up if you hop from one bar to another. Just a heads up, the popular spots get incredibly crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, so prepare to squeeze into tight spaces or wait in line on the humid sidewalk.

Makati Traffic and Jeepney Routes

Getting to Poblacion can be a bit of a challenge due to the constant gridlock along Makati Avenue. If you are taking public transit, take the MRT-3 to Guadalupe or Buendia Station. From Guadalupe, hop on a jeepney bound for L. Guinto or JP Rizal, and get off near Makati Avenue, then walk towards the inner streets. If you're coming from the Ayala area, you can take a jeepney heading to JP Rizal. Driving your own car is highly discouraged. The inner streets of Poblacion are extremely narrow, often down to a single lane due to parked cars, and side mirrors get clipped all the time. Finding a parking slot is a stressful task, and the local barangay towing trucks are very active. Save yourself the headache and book a ride-hailing car, or simply walk if you are coming from the main CBD area.
