Makati Heritage is a collection of historic sites in Makati City, located near the modern financial district and the Pasig River. While most people think of Makati as just a concrete jungle of skyscrapers, BGC-adjacent condos, and fancy malls, it actually houses some of the oldest Spanish-era churches and ruins in Metro Manila.

  • Exact Barangay/City: Barangay Poblacion and Guadalupe Viejo, Makati City
  • Best For: Historical walks, Spanish-era architecture, and cultural photography
  • Average Spend: Free (donations welcome at churches; jeepney fares around ₱15 - ₱30)
  • Power Outlets & Wi-Fi: Not available at ruins or churches; plenty of cafes with Wi-Fi and outlets in nearby Poblacion or Rockwell.

Navigating Makati's Side Streets

Commuting between these historical sites can be quite a challenge, especially during the EDSA rush hour. If you want to visit the Guadalupe Ruins (Nuestra Señora de Gracia Church), you can take the MRT-3 and get off at Guadalupe Station, then navigate through the crowded side streets. But just a heads up: the Guadalupe area is an absolute madhouse with tricycle terminals, street vendors, and jeepneys going to Pateros or Taft. For the Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Poblacion, it's best to take a jeepney from landmark spots like Leon Guinto or Ayala, but you'll have to deal with the tight, gridlocked streets of Poblacion where parking is close to impossible. If you decide to bring a car, you'll probably end up parking in Rockwell Power Plant Mall and walking or taking a ride-hailing service to avoid getting stuck in narrow alleys.

Spanish-Era Survivors

Guadalupe Ruins is particularly beautiful, with its weathered volcanic tuff walls that date back to 1601. It has survived multiple wars and earthquakes, and stands as a silent witness to Manila's history. Over in Poblacion, St. Peter and Paul Parish is the oldest church in Makati, having been founded in 1620. Visiting these spots gives you a different perspective of the city, far from the corporate offices of Ayala Avenue. It's best to visit early in the morning before the heat gets too intense and the traffic turns the streets into a massive parking lot.
