The Green Heart of Mandaluyong
Honestly, Wack Wack is one of the most exclusive and expensive neighborhoods in the entire country. The crown jewel of the area is the Wack Wack Golf & Country Club, which features massive, beautifully manicured fairways that you can actually see from the surrounding high-rise condominiums. The residential streets are super quiet, lined with grand mansions and heavily guarded gates. Anyway, it’s a massive contrast to the rest of Mandaluyong, which is generally known for its high-density neighborhoods and busy commercial hubs. Unless you're a member of the golf club or know someone living in the area, you won't be spending much time inside the gates, but it's a beautiful area to pass by.
Commuter Realism: Shaw Boulevard and MRT Traffic
So, let's talk about how to get around here. Wack Wack is located right along Shaw Boulevard, which is one of the main arteries connecting Manila to Ortigas Center. If you are commuting, the closest train station is the MRT-3 Shaw Boulevard Station. The traffic along Shaw Boulevard, especially near the crossing and the C5 connection, is legendary for being absolute gridlock during the rush hour. Tricycles are not allowed on the main highway, so you'll have to rely on jeepneys or UV Express vans. Just a heads up: the sidewalks along Shaw can get pretty crowded, so walking to the station can be a bit of a challenge during the midday heat.
Dining and Shopping on the Edges
Since the inner neighborhood is strictly residential, the commercial action is located along Shaw Boulevard. You have SM Cherry Shaw (formerly Cherry Foodarama) and 500 Shaw Zentrum, which offer basic grocery shopping and fast-food options. For a more upscale dining and cafe experience, you can walk or take a short ride to the nearby Greenhills area or the Shangri-La Plaza. There are several high-end coffee shops along the main road where you can find freelancers working on their laptops. Just make sure to arrive early because these spots get pretty packed with residents from the nearby Wack Wack condos looking for their daily caffeine fix.
