The South Triangle Connector
Timog Avenue (which literally translates to "South Avenue" in Tagalog) acts as the boundary line between the barangays of South Triangle and Sacred Heart. Before the commercial boom, it was a quiet residential boulevard. But because of its strategic position connecting Quezon Avenue to EDSA, it naturally transformed into a massive business and nightlife artery. Honestly, it's a bit of a sensory overload during rush hour—jeepneys honking, neon billboard lights flashing, and office workers rushing home.
The intersection of Timog and Tomas Morato is marked by the 11th World Scout Jamboree Memorial Rotunda. This roundabout is the landmark of the neighborhood, commemorating the Boy Scouts who died in 1963. Around this circle, you'll find some of the oldest restaurants and nightlife bars in Quezon City, making it the default starting point for any evening out.
Food, Media, and Offices
Unlike Tomas Morato, which is heavily focused on restaurants and KTV bars, Timog is more mixed. You have corporate banks, local government offices, beauty clinics, and hotel lobbies sitting right next to Chinese hotpot places and fast-food chains. It's also home to some media landmarks. GMA Network's main studio compound sits right on the corner of Timog and EDSA. If you hang around the coffee shops here during the day, you'll likely spot media executives and actors running scripts.
For dining, the avenue offers massive buffet options, Korean grill joints, and several high-end coffee shops that serve as informal workspaces during the day. It's less intimate than the Scout side streets, but the convenience and variety make it a solid option for casual hangouts.
Transit Connections
Commuting to Timog is very straightforward. The GMA-Kamuning MRT-3 station is right at the eastern end of the avenue. Jeepneys run the entire length of the road from EDSA to Quezon Avenue, costing only the base fare. Tricycle terminals are scattered along the side streets if you need to head deeper into the residential areas of Diliman. If you're driving, expect heavy congestion between 5 PM and 8 PM, and keep in mind that parking along the main road is almost non-existent; utilize the paid basement lots of local hotels or office buildings.
